Midterm Topic

I am focusing on the chartering document of the NAACP from 1909, "The Call". In doing so I want to look at the specific language and issues that it responds to in that period. There is ample speculation that the formation of the organization was in response to increased race riots, but I want to look deeper into the greater context of the turn of the century race picture and how it predicated the need for the NAACP.
